Role Summary

Would you like to do something a bit different? Do you want to be part of a team which links NHS to cutting-edge research? Can you evidence that you are disciplined and meticulous, and that you have initiative when it counts?

The Human Biomaterials Resource Centre (HBRC) is a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licensed, ethically-approved human research tissue bank (RTB) situated at the University of Birmingham. It is seeking a disciplined individual with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail who will complete, accurately and contemporaneously, the necessary records relating to sample consent, receipt, processing, storage, release and clinical data annotation. The successful candidate will undertake the procurement of tissue, blood or other body fluids from local NHS patients and healthy donors. On occasion, you will work in an NHS pathology department, as well as helping to retrieve archived fixed tissue blocks. You will also pack and dispatch samples for release to biomedical researchers at external institutions. You will be trained to assist with research histology (tissue sectioning/staining), and to contribute to a small sample management service (“hosting”), so that contracted/ad hoc processes are delivered, often within tight deadlines, in a manner compliant with the Human Tissue Act (HTAct), Data Protection Act 2018 (GDPR), and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

On this journey with the HBRC, you will learn about many medical conditions and the research being conducted to help future patients.
