Are you passionate about biology and molecular cells? Birkbeck, University of London is seeking an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Natural Sciences and teach part-time this coming Autumn 2025.
As Associate Lecturer you would teach the module:
As Associate Lecturer, you'll contribute to teaching on the first year of Birkbeck's BSc Biomedicine programme, giving an introduction to molecular cell biology to students from a variety of backgrounds, who'll be in the first term of their undergraduate studies. You will have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching within the biological sciences and to providing support to students that fosters academic growth.
The module is taught on Tuesdays in Term 1, and you'll deliver two instances: one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The work would require 60 contact hours of teaching as well as organisation, communication with students, student support, and assessment marking.
The module syllabus has been designed and the teaching materials already exist although you will have some freedom to refine these and also to contribute to the design of the assessments, subject to the specifications in place.

Salary:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract:
Teaching Tuesday 1-4pm & 6-9pm from 30 September 2025, 9 weeks. After a 1-week break, 1-4pm & 6–9 pm on 9 December 2025. There will be a single session, likely 4–7 pm, for late-sit assessments on 6 January 2026.
