The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Photography Programme within the Media School at London College of Communication, working on our new BA Photography and Creative Industries course.
You will be responsible for developing students’ creative, technical, professional and entrepreneurial skills. A key part of your role will be helping students define their creative voice, build relationships with brands and industry partners as well as understand how image-making works in the context of the creative sector. You will help them develop their personal brand, embed progressive values in their ways of working and overcome hurdles they might experience early on in their careers.
With enthusiasm for innovative course delivery and knowledge of contemporary photography, you will be responsible for leading, teaching, assessing, unit management and curriculum development. You will provide pastoral and academic support to our diverse student community, as well as monitor their progress and attendance and maintain appropriate records.
In this role, you will use your specialist knowledge and expertise to support the development of pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. Working with the course team, you will develop recruitment strategies and post-graduation opportunities that aim to address the current lack of diversity within the commercial sector.
About you
You will have extensive knowledge, skills and experience of working in the photography or creative industry, as either a photographer, creative director, graphic designer, or a related role and have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how photography and moving image intersects with the worlds of branding design, motion graphics and content creation.
You will have real world experience of working on commissioned or branded projects and will be able to demonstrate contributions to creative collaborations: from ideation, creative strategy, pitching, budgeting, pre-production, production, postproduction and image licensing.
You will be an innovative educator with a commitment to the ongoing development of pedagogy as a creative practice, and to promoting diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of teaching and assessment. Previous experience of Higher Education teaching is essential, along with highly effective interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
