About us:
King’s College London is an internationally renowned research-intensive university based in the heart of London.
The Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy (SSPP) is home to one of the largest, most diverse and international communities for social research and education in Europe. We seek to understand the challenges of global, social, technological and economic transformations and to shape these through our education and research.
The faculty offers postgraduate research programmes across our five Schools, with a sizeable cohort of around 850 students. The role holder will be part of the SSPP PGR Team which sits within the wider Faculty Research Team. Our work centres on creating the conditions for doctoral research students to thrive, ensuring that our doctoral programmes run to high standards, both in terms of academic quality and student experience.

Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the London Interdisciplinary Social Science DTP (LISS DTP), led by King’s College London, in partnership with Imperial College London and Queen Mary University of London, enables social science research students to join and develop a research community that springs from the synergies among the social science disciplines, health and medicine, the natural and physical sciences, engineering, and the arts and humanities.
For more information about LISS DTP, please see our website: https://liss-dtp.ac.uk/about/
The role is based at both Bush House on the King’s Strand Campus (SSPP) and Lavington Street, Guy’s Campus (LISS DTP).
About the role:
The Senior Doctoral Studies Liaison Officer will provide high quality administrative and engagement support to two key areas: (1) Postgraduate Research (PGR) in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy (SSPP) Research Leadership Team and (2) the London Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (LISS) Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) – an ESRC-funded initiative.
The post holder is responsible for engagement and communication activities across the SSPP Research Leadership Team and LISS DTP to ensure that all doctoral students achieve research excellence and enjoy an enriching experience during their time with us. The role holder will be expected to develop close working relationships with academic and professional services staff in both SSPP and the LISS DTP and to facilitate links between SSPP and LISS DTP across the component Schools and Departments of the Faculty, as well as working effectively across the LISS DTP partner institutions.
There are two discrete, but interrelated areas of responsibility for the role holder:
(1) To provide dedicated professional services support to the Associate Dean for Doctoral Studies and the Senior PGR Manager in SSPP, facilitating engagement and coordination of all matters relating to doctoral research students across the Faculty and KCL.
(2) To provide essential high-quality operational, engagement and communication support to the LISS DTP Team and to facilitate effective liaison between the LISS DTP and SSPP and across LISS DTP partner institutions.
The Doctoral Studies Liaison Officer therefore will be line managed by (1) the Senior PGR Manager in SSPP; and (2) the LISS DTP Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of two collegiate teams and to undertake a dynamic and collaborative role.
The successful candidate should have experience in working within higher education with strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
The role holder will be proactive and solution-focused, taking initiative to drive continuous improvement.
This is currently a hybrid working role, and you will be expected to spend a minimum of two working days per week on campus. Your time will be split equally between SSPP and LISS DTP (i.e. 2.5 days per week with each team).
This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
