About Research Services

Our Research Services department is central to Oxford’s research success. We deliver expert support across five core areas, promoting a culture of teamwork, professionalism, continuous improvement, empathy, and trust.

The Strategic Research Development (SRD) Team, within Funding & Contracts, plays a vital role in shaping and supporting large-scale, multidisciplinary research proposals. The team works across the University to identify funding opportunities, broker strategic collaborations, and support both external grant applications and internal bids to the University’s Strategic Research Fund (SRF) — an initiative that enables major investments in transformative research projects.

The Role

As Strategic Research Development Manager, you will lead on the development of high-value, complex research proposals. You'll provide expert guidance to academic and professional colleagues across all stages of proposal creation—from inception to submission and beyond. Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating collaborative, multi-partner grant applications
  • Developing support services and streamlined processes
  • Supporting SRF investment cases
  • Advising on the set-up of funded projects, including contracts and agreements
  • Contributing to the formation of strategic partnerships across divisions

You’ll be closely involved with the University’s most impactful research investments, offering a unique opportunity to help shape the future of research at Oxford.

About You

We're looking for a highly motivated individual with:

  • Strong organisational, communication, and teamworking skills
  • Experience in research or research programme management in a higher education or similar setting
  • Strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach
  • Knowledge of the UK and international research funding landscape
  • Experience with post-award project management is desirable

This role is ideal for candidates currently at Oxford seeking a secondment, or for a talented Grade 7 looking to progress. Responsibilities may be adjusted accordingly.
