About us
We wish to recruit a Senior Research Fellow from 1st June 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will participate in the research program of EPSRC Compound Semiconductor Manufacturing Hub for a Sustainable Future. This £12M Manufacturing Hub, funded by EPSRC, will research into high performance III-V/Si quantum dot devices on Silicon. This will radically boost the uptake and application of Compound Semiconductor technology by applying the manufacturing approaches of Silicon to Compound Semiconductors. Our vision is to establish the UK as the primary global research and manufacturing hub for Compound Semiconductor (CS) Technologies, expanding and extending the CS Cluster that our previous EPSRC Manufacturing Hub initiated. The CS Hub will create and expand UK wide excellence and impact in CS by delivering a scientific lead, developing sustainable processes and combining and connecting UK research excellence with the best transla tional facilities.
About the role
In this project, the tasks at UCL are to develop III-V quantum dot devices on Si and III substrates by molecular beam epitaxy.
This Senior Research Fellow will be responsible for depositing compound semiconductor material using MBE. The following is indicative of the key duties and responsibilities associated with this post:
The post is available from 1st June 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter for 24 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available.
The salary available is UCL Grade 8.39 (£54,172 per annum inclusive of London Allowance).
About you
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant area of physical sciences or engineering. They should possess strong experience on the heteroepitaxial growth of QD lasers and in-depth knowledge of the mechanism of QD lasers. Candidates should have a strong track-record on the research outcome of MBE-growth of III-V compound semiconductor materials and of III-V on Si optoelectronic devices. The ability to analyse and write up data in the form of journal papers and reports with extensive paper publication as first and/or corresponding author is also essential.
Strong experience on the operation and maintenance of III-V solid-source MBE facility is desirable, as well as the capability to develop an independent research profile within the period of the grant.
