Lab Engineer in Psychology

De Montfort University Dubai – Faculty of Health & Life Sciences

De Montfort University Dubai is seeking a skilled and experienced Lab Engineer to support the Psychology programme within the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences. This non-teaching role is essential in providing technical expertise to both students and staff, ensuring effective use of specialist laboratory equipment, software, and tools in Psychology. The Lab Engineer will also play a key role in maintaining laboratory spaces and supporting academic-related events and outreach activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on support and guidance on the use of specialist psychological tools and software (e.g., PowerLab, Eye Tracker, SPSS, EPrime, PsychoPy).
  • Prepare labs for classes, lectures, and student research activities.
  • Assist in the maintenance and safe operation of psychology laboratory equipment.
  • Create and update SOPs and documentation related to lab operations and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with programme leaders and academic staff in planning and preparing lab sessions.
  • Support university open days and outreach initiatives.
  • Conduct visual checks to ensure lab safety and compliance with health regulations.
  • Maintain inventory and report equipment maintenance needs.
  • Provide training and technical advice to students on experimental tools and procedures.
  • Support other practical areas within the faculty when required.

Candidate Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related discipline (Required)
  • Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology or a related field (Preferred)
  • Certified training in the use of psychological laboratory tools and software Experience:
  • Ideally minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in a lab-based or technical support role within a psychology or life sciences environment
  • Demonstrated use of software and tools such as SPSS, EPrime, PsychoPy, PowerLab, EEG, and Eye Tracker
  • Familiarity with using and troubleshooting AV/IT equipment in educational settings
  • Previous experience supporting students or faculty in a higher education environment is advantageous

Skills & Attributes:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows OS
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Commitment to student support, academic quality, and laboratory safety
  • Willingness to undergo First Aid and Health & Safety training as required
