Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (Health and Social Care Leadership)

Manchester Metropolitan University – Department of Social Care & Social Work

The Department of Social Care and Social Work is a thriving academic community of students and staff committed to delivering high-quality teaching, a positive student experience, and impactful research. We currently provide courses to over 800 students and have ambitious plans for growth. Our teaching approach is highly innovative, and we are recognised both locally and regionally as leaders in Degree Apprenticeships - an area in which we have won awards.

We are particularly renowned for the quality of our national provision, which includes the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care. You will contribute to teaching across a number of modules, including the Mary Seacole programme, for which we are accredited by the NHS Leadership Academy.

The department has a strong track record of securing research council funding and boasts a growing portfolio of research projects. Much of this work focuses on learning disabilities and autism, health inequalities, mental health, and child protection.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Health and Social Care to teach across our range of programmes, with a primary focus on the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care. The role will involve curriculum development, teaching, assessment, and providing support to apprentices and students.

You will be a passionate academic with a solid background in health and social care leadership, dedicated to upholding professional standards and delivering an excellent student experience. The role also requires strategic thinking to contribute to the development of programme strategy, narrative, and pedagogies. You will collaborate effectively with department colleagues, programme and module leaders, external partners, and staff in the Apprenticeship Unit.

The Candidate

We are looking for candidates who ideally have substantial experience in health or social care leadership and management within the NHS, local authorities, or the voluntary sector.

You will possess a strong understanding of contemporary health and social care practice, with expertise in areas such as project implementation, management, and strategic planning. Ideally, you will also have experience teaching in higher education.

We seek a team-oriented individual who can inspire and engage both students and staff through collaboration and co-creation. You should be comfortable delivering both in-person and online teaching and be willing to travel to our current teaching locations, which include Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, London, and Newcastle.

To apply, please submit a CV and a covering letter detailing how your experience, expertise, and ambition make you an ideal candidate for this role.

Interviews will take place on 7th July and will include a presentation.
