Merton College proposes to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Ancient Greek for the period 1 October 2025 until 30 September 2026.
The main duties of the post will be: to teach first- and second-year undergraduates working towards Honour Moderations and third and fourth-year undergraduates working towards Finals for an average of 6 hours per week in full term, to share in the organisational responsibility and administration for degrees involving Classics, to provide study skills and pastoral support, and to take part in the undergraduate admissions exercise.
The successful candidate will be able to teach the Honour Moderations Greek Literature paper, Greek language for first- and second-year students, the Greek Texts and Contexts Moderations paper and the Greek Core and Early Greek Hexameter Poetry paper for Finals. They will have completed, or be about to complete, a doctorate in Ancient Greek in a topic relevant to this teaching range. The ability to provide excellent small-group tutorial teaching to high-achieving undergraduates is essential.
