The Department of Economics at Manchester wishes to appoint one Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) from September 2025 on a 2 year fixed contract.

We wish to appoint an innovative, engaging colleague who will be able to enhance the quality of our teaching and improve the student experience at Manchester. The candidates responsibilities include course unit leadership, support colleagues by delivering small class teaching for other large units, dissertation supervision and contribution to course unit design including the delivery of formative and summative assessment for students on these units and the marking of assessments.

In addition to course unit specific engagement the candidates will also be involved in other administrative and pastoral duties.

We are specifically looking for a colleague with expertise in econometrics. The main teaching obligation will be to deliver a year-long first course in Econometrics (Undergraduate, 2nd year). The colleague will also be expected to provide coding support to students (in R).

The Economics Department

The Economics department, within the School of Social Sciences, is a large department, which is internationally recognised for pursuing high quality research, both theoretical and applied, across all areas of macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics, including financial, environmental, and development economics. Building on these existing strengths, our recruitment strategy is to appoint colleagues who, in collaboration with existing staff, have the potential to further enhance the quality of our future teaching portfolio.

  • An up-to-date CV,
  • a 1 page summary of recent teaching evaluations,
  • Imagine you are the lecturer for a 2nd year unit in econometrics. Provide a 500 word summary of what you think the role of a 2 hour lecture is in the learning process of a student in that unit.
