We are looking for a creative and strategic Head of Social Media and Content to lead the University’s social media strategy and campaigns. This key leadership position is a new post that will lead a team of social media and digital content specialists to boost engagement for the University online.

You will bring together social media expertise, channels and responsibilities under a single comprehensive approach that supports the University Strategy and enhances our reputation in the UK and internationally. You will be adept at using audience insight to create compelling story-led digital content that resonates with key stakeholders online, using data to track engagement and drive continual improvement. You will bring an innovative, creative approach to driving cut through and bringing our world-leading research, exceptional student experience and innovative partnerships and innovation to life, driving student retention and recruitment.  

A natural team leader, you will bring together colleagues from across the University to amplify stories across social media, establishing best practice and providing guidance to those managing faculty and school accounts. You will work closely with colleagues in the Marketing team to provide support and advice on paid-for social media campaigns.   You will need to be adept at advising senior leaders on both opportunities and risk, providing guidance on how to maximise social media profiles to boost reputation with key influencers and stakeholders. You will also be skilled at monitoring issues online, giving prompt advice and updates on how to mitigate risk and manage challenging situations.

As a vital member of the management team, you will role model Southampton’s values, providing inspirational leadership to your team to support high performance, staff engagement and collaborative working.
