The role

As a Teaching Associate you will play a key role in delivering a flagship, year-long Aerospace Design and Build Unit (AVDASI2), where second-year students design, manufacture, and test a 3m wingspan carbon-composite UAV. This is a large, hands-on, team-based unit with around 200 students. You’ll work closely with the Unit Director to develop and deliver engaging content, support practical sessions, and help manage the systems that make this complex project run smoothly.

What will you be doing?

You will support the teaching delivery of Professional Practice teaching content, which includes: Project Management; Risk Management; Innovation methods; and Team development models. You will run laboratory sessions with up to 70 students per session, supervising the students’ manufacturing activities via our teaching support staff. You will help recruit (internally) and train the postgraduate teaching support team and ensure that the lab is adequately supervised throughout the timetable. You will work with the Unit director to administrate the unit and to develop new automated tools that support streamlined data collection and project management. You will support student teams in the development of their teamwork ability and interpersonal skills. You will carry out assessment and marking on the unit including the evaluation of project plans and students personal reflective portfolios.

You should apply if

You are excited about the opportunity to teach and support Aerospace students working on a complex and difficult engineering project. You have a good degree in a relevant engineering subject. You have experience in undergraduate teaching and supervision. You have excellent written and spoken English and are able to deliver engaging presentations to large audiences. You have a hands-on and proactive approach to lab work. You have practical skills and are interested in helping students build their confidence in practical work. You are interested in innovating teaching content and methods. You are comfortable in giving feedback to teams (and individuals) about their progression.
