THE PROJECT 

The University of Essex in partnership with Unisurge offers an exciting opportunity to revolutionise the medical supply industry by developing a demand prediction model for surgical procedure packs.

This post is fixed term for 36 months and is based at Unisurge’s offices in Newmarket, Suffolk.

DUTIES OF THE POST

The duties of the post will include: 

  • Review the current workflow in the company and specification of the functional requirements of the new system.
  • Support company to scale up and exploit new technology.
  • Design, develop, and test an initial prototype of AI predictive engine and computer vision system according to the requirement of the project.
  • Investigate, implement prototype and embed it into existing system and validation.
  • Prepare reports, evaluate, handover, and sign off the project.
  • Active engagement in personal development.
  • Act as project lead, to progress the project and ensure milestones are met to a timely manner.
  • Embed technology, train and upskill company staff.
  • Participate in academic and/or industrial conferences and other events, to disseminate and present research outcomes to the wider community.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, AI or a similar discipline, or equivalent experience

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience handling large, complex datasets, including sales and customer data.
  • Knowledge/interest in data science, machine learning algorithms, and computer vision.
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning, including time series forecasting, regression models, and neural networks.
  • Experience designing, testing, and deploying machine learning models in a controlled environment.
  • Experience with computer vision techniques, including image processing, object detection, and pattern recognition.
  • Experience of version control using Git.
  • Understanding of UI centred product design, as well as data extraction and interrogation.
  • Experience of developing and deploying predictive systems in cloud and inhouse servers.
  • Experience designing, testing, and deploying machine learning models in a controlled environment.
  • Strong mathematical background.
  • Knowledge/interest in optimisation, modelling, and algorithm development.
  • Experience and knowledge of higher-level programming languages.
  • Experience of developing and deploying predictive systems in cloud and inhouse servers.

  • Being able to work in a fast-moving environment, listening to feedback and working collaboratively.
