The Discipline of Journalism and Media within the School of English, Media and Creative Arts at University of Galway is a dynamic and ambitious unit with more than 600 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Journalism and Global Media. Global Media is the largest area, offering future-focused teaching that blends critical media theory with hands-on practice across journalism, digital and social media, podcasting, television production, and media industries. Journalism is a key part of the Discipline, playing a vital role in supporting democracy, accountability, and informed public discourse. Our programmes also include specialist strands in data, strategic and humanitarian communication, and climate communication, equipping students to tackle global challenges through impactful storytelling. The Discipline is outward-looking, with strong industry links and a commitment to innovation, global engagement, and public interest media.
Applications are now invited for an appointment as Lecturer A in Journalism and Media (Multiplatform Journalism) at University of Galway.
This is a rare opportunity to join the University as Lecturer in Journalism and Media (Multiplatform Journalism) – a role with a strong focus on newsroom-based teaching, journalism practice, innovation in the curriculum, and leadership in multiplatform journalism.
The successful candidate will play a central role in teaching and learning across our BA and MA programmes, leading on convergent and digital-first journalism. They will oversee our award-winning hyperlocal news site Galway Pulse, and teach across key modules including news writing, reporting, social and digital content, SEO, verification, and analytics. Experience in video and television is also welcome.
