The Discipline of Journalism and Media within the School of English, Media and Creative Arts at University of Galway is a dynamic and ambitious unit, with more than 600 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Journalism and Global Media. Global Media is the largest area, offering future-focused teaching that blends critical media theory with hands-on practice across journalism, digital and social media, podcasting, television production, and media industries. Journalism is a key part of the Discipline, playing a key role in supporting democracy, accountability, and informed public discourse. Our programmes also include specialist strands in data, strategic and humanitarian communication, and climate communication, equipping students to tackle global challenges through impactful storytelling. The Discipline is outward-looking, with strong industry links and a commitment to innovation, global engagement, and public interest media.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a creative, future-focused academic team. The role centres on practice-based teaching and leadership in screen, audio, and multiplatform storytelling for the post-broadcast era. The successful candidate will contribute to both our BA and MA Global Media programmes, with a particular focus on the BA in Global Media (BAGM). Teaching areas may include screen production, podcasting, digital-first content, streaming formats, production workflows, commissioning, and multiplatform storytelling.

We are seeking a candidate with a professional background as a producer in television or broadcasting who is already working in an academic setting. The ideal candidate will have significant production experience and a deep understanding of how audiences engage with content across evolving formats and platforms. They will bring a blend of technical expertise, creative flair, and critical insight, and will be confident in translating industry practice into a student-centred academic environment. Familiarity with analytics, platform strategy, and inclusive media-making is highly desirable. Experience with immersive formats is also welcome.

This is a Lecturer A post and is primarily focused on teaching. However, there are opportunities to engage in scholarship, research, and creative practice.
