The University of Surrey’s Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences comprises five schools, working together under a ‘one health’ vision. Our state-of-the-art facilities and equipment provide the latest technologies for interdisciplinary research and teaching in human and animal health. Our mission is to sustainably improve the health and wellbeing of humans and animals, and their environments, through new knowledge and its application to the design, development, and delivery of responsible innovation and impact.

Our School of Veterinary Medicine follows an innovative distributed teaching model. It aims to inspire and educate veterinary professionals who will advance veterinary medicine to meet the needs of a changing world. We embrace the traditional values of professionalism, scientific curiosity, and clinical excellence, while developing graduates with broad horizons. Our research aims to advance knowledge in all aspects of veterinary medicine and education.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon with an enthusiasm for helping Veterinary Undergraduates to develop skills in routine neutering surgery. This is a fixed term, part-time position with no out of hours or weekend duties.

The role will involve supervising students at the off-site neutering clinics, in conjunction with other veterinary surgeons and an RVN. The neutering clinics are stand-alone clinics run in conjunction with our partners, and provide invaluable experience for 4th year students, enabling them to enter final year rotations and general practice with confidence in routine surgery.

The successful candidate should be confident in elective surgical neutering procedures in cats and dogs and have enthusiasm for sharing their clinical experience and knowledge, giving students the confidence to perform surgical procedures and manage surgical cases.

Enthusiasm and a willingness to work flexibly and to adapt to teaching creatively in a range of different contexts are essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.

This role requires candidates to be able to work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during semester dates (22 weeks a year).

About you

All candidates must hold a veterinary degree and be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). Candidates will have demonstrable clinical experience and practical competencies in small animal practice.
