Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the School of Historical Studies and teach part time this coming year 2025-26.
As Associate Lecturer you will teach the modules:
Your role will be to deliver teaching (lectures) to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
As Associate Lecturer, you will have in-depth knowledge of the discipline of Philosophy, specific to the topic area noted above – Epistemology and Metaphysics (for Knowledge and Reality), Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science (for that course), and Moral and Political Philosophy (for Morality, Society and Politics and for The Ethics of Life and Death), and experience of both research and teaching within the HE context in this field.
You should also have a PhD (or equivalent level) in an appropriate specialism, or to be close to completion.

You will have in-depth knowledge of the history of AI (including key figures and intellectual movements), its theoretical foundations, and its applications. An ability to convey this information clearly to non-technical audiences is crucial.

Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
