We are recruiting a Genomics Bioinformatician who will develop and maintain data analysis pipelines for the NIHR BioResource large-scale genotyping and functional genomics projects aiming to widen ethnic and age diversity of participant cohorts, or to improve our understanding and diagnosis of common and rare diseases, using multi-omics and/or long read sequencing approaches. Responsibilities include optimizing data workflows, ensuring data quality, and supporting lead analysts. The candidate will contribute to the whole research process, including planning, decision making, data collection, data cleaning, analysis, documentation and distribution of results in written and oral form.

About the job:

This is an exciting opportunity to support medical genomics research in common and rare diseases using samples and data from the NIHR Bioresource cohorts comprising thousands of participants.

You will hold a relevant PhD in bioinformatics or have at least 4 years of relevant experience and be proficient in the analysis of large-scale genomic data and bioinformatics. This would include genotyping array, exome or whole genome sequencing analyses, and/or proteomics. Alternatively, you will have experience in large-scale biomarker informatics.

The role holder will have good skills in LINUX/bash/python and statistical analysis, preferably in R and/or python. You will be able to work independently and maintain excellent relationships with our collaborators. High quality written communication and presentation skills are essential.

About you: 

  • Experience with IT and database management with LINUX/UNIX and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments
  • Formal bioinformatics and programming experience or training
  • Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Ability to follow research guidelines and protocols

The post is available on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2026 in the first instance. NIHR BioResource is funded by the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) on a 5-year funding cycle.

This role is available for both internal and external secondments where applicable.

Our offices are on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus CB2 0QQ (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).
