We are seeking engineers who want to innovate and apply their knowledge to the challenges of industry and society to support Digital Engineering within AMIC’s advanced manufacturing activities. You will apply your specialist knowledge and experience of methods and processes, to generate innovative research outputs which have a direct economic and technical benefit to companies and sectors. You will work collaboratively with your team, industry, technology providers, national technology centres and academia to deliver key projects focused on advanced manufacturing.

About the person:

We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering Science, or a related discipline OR extensive recent and relevant industrial experience directly related to the role.
  • DevOps: Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following: DevOps, CI/CD, Git, or Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Data Analysis: Proven competence in data analysis techniques and tools, e.g. Python, for scripting and automation.
  • Cloud Technology: Familiarity with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for infrastructure management and deployment automation.
  • Containerisation/Orchestration: Familiarity of containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Industrial Protocols: Experience working with or familiarity of industrial protocols such as OPC-UA, MQTT, Profibus, Modbus etc.
  • Data Quality & Validation: Proven ability to implement data cleaning, validation, and anomaly detection techniques to ensure high-quality datasets for analysis.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) expertise: Experience designing and implementing data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
  • Data Governance & Security: Understanding of data compliance frameworks, security best practices, and access control mechanisms within cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Data Architecture & Modelling: Strong understanding of data lake architectures, data warehouses, and dimensional modelling for scalable analytics solutions.
  • Database Administration: Experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server or InfluxDB.
  • Monitoring Tools: Experience using monitoring and logging tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana, for real-time observability of time-series data.
  • Demonstrable evidence of working within multifaceted environments delivering to deadlines and within budget.
  • Experience of using research/industrial tools and techniques resulting in high quality projects and technical reports.
  • Evidence of complex problem-solving skills obtained with a proven ability to develop innovative solutions.
