Job description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated clinical trainees to gather experience in experimental medicine (EM) research through a prestigious Clinical Fellowship hosted jointly by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The fellowship will enable the successful candidate to combine broad practical experience in cutting edge projects across the EM portfolio within the CRF (for up to 50% of the week), whilst for the remaining 50% of their time the fellows will join a specific research team. There is currently one fellowship available, joint between the CRF and the cardiovascular research team led by Professor Alex Rothman, focusing on projects in pulmonary hypertension.

This fellowship offers a comprehensive introduction to early phase clinical research, working alongside internationally renowned clinical staff and translational scientists. It is aimed towards pre- or post- MRCP candidates who have an interest in academic medicine as a potential future career path. The 12-month funding affords an opportunity to learn the principles and practice of EM studies and the experience, time and support network required to submit applications for a future PhD fellowship in a chosen area. For suitable candidates keen to develop this post further, there may also be the opportunity to extend the funding to 24 months to enable the candidate to undertake an MD, if interested.

Candidates are expected to be highly motivated, enthusiastic individuals wishing to excel in both clinical and academic training and with the ambition to be amongst the next generation of leading academic clinicians. An understanding of, and the ability to implement, good clinical practice (GCP) is essential.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
