About the role:
We are delighted to be recruiting a new colleague at Assistant Professor level in Civil Engineering Materials in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering. The post will be based in the Materials Section which is renowned for its wide-ranging high-quality research and teaching activities and enjoys a strong international reputation. This vibrant group benefits from excellent laboratories and has a thriving community of taught postgraduate MSc students, PhD researchers and post-doctoral researchers. It also hosts the Imperial’s Centre for Infrastructure Materials, home to state-of-the-art facilities for the characterisation and testing of civil engineering materials.
What you would be doing:
You will plan, resource, and direct an original and impacting research programme in Civil Engineering Materials, conducting research projects on your own and developing collaborative projects with other members of the Department and College, and with external collaborators.
Your research programme will contribute to the College Strategy and create positive societal impact. Potential areas of specific relevance include, but are not limited to, high quality fundamental research in cementitious materials, steel/metals, glass, wood/timber, ceramics, composite materials and biomaterials.
You will also teach and examine relevant courses at undergraduate, MSc and higher research degree level, through lectures, seminars, tutorials, course work and personal supervision.
What we are looking for:
You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering Materials or a related field, along with a developing national reputation in this area.
You will also have a portfolio of research publications confirming national standing appropriate to your career stage, and an ability to communicate ideas and concepts clearly and effectively.
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships both within the institution and with external partners are essential.
