The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a world-leading institution in research and education in global and tropical health. In the latest Research Excellence Framework, LSTM was ranked 2nd in the UK for research impact and 12th overall in clinical medicine, with nearly half of all outputs graded world-leading (4*).

We are now seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Public Health/Implementation Science to join our Implementation Science Group within the Malaria Epidemiology unit. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-impact, mixed-method evaluations of malaria vaccine delivery strategies in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Chad. The postholder will also support wider implementation research capacity and teaching at LSTM and partner institutions.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading mixed methods process evaluations and contributing to complex implementation research within malaria vaccine projects.
  • Drafting protocols, securing ethics approvals, developing tools and data systems, and managing data collection in collaboration with in-country partners.
  • Conducting rigorous quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including feasibility assessments.
  • Publishing peer-reviewed research, producing policy briefs, and presenting findings at national and international conferences.
  • Supporting evidence synthesis, including systematic reviews and PhD supervision.
  • Contributing to MSc teaching in implementation science and malaria-related public health topics.
  • Building equitable partnerships with Ministries of Health, global funders (e.g. GAVI, Global Fund), and global normative bodies (e.g. WHO).
  • Supporting career development of early-career researchers and playing an active role in the academic life of LSTM.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A PhD in public health, implementation science, or a closely related field, with applied experience in LMIC settings.
  • Proven expertise in mixed-methods evaluations, including process evaluations and data analysis.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of malaria control interventions, particularly vaccines, and understanding of health systems in low-resource settings.
  • Excellent academic writing skills and a developing or established track record of publication.
  • Full working proficiency in French and experience conducting research in African settings.
  • A commitment to equitable partnerships, research capacity strengthening, and global health impact.

For Senior Lecturer level, you will additionally bring:

  • An established reputation in implementation science, with a strong publication record and successful research funding track record.
  • Evidence of strategic academic leadership, mentoring experience, and PhD supervision as a primary supervisor.
  • A clear vision for developing a sustainable and impactful research portfolio in malaria implementation science.
