Research Associate in Psychology

Are you passionate about applying your knowledge of advanced statistical techniques to improve treatment for people with mental health problems? We have an exciting opportunity for a research associate to join colleagues in the School of Psychology in partnership with the NHS Northern Gambling Service. In this research project, we will apply machine learning methods to clinical records to develop understanding of why many people drop out from treatment for gambling problems.

You will join a team that includes a mix of senior and early career researchers in the School of Psychology, the interdisciplinary Sheffield Addiction Research Group (SARG), and colleagues from the NHS. You will take a lead role in the analysis of anonymised clinical records using machine learning methods, and on reporting and writing up the findings. This is a great opportunity for a candidate with appropriate skills and experience who would like to pursue a career in data science within healthcare or academic settings.

You should hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area, and be able to clearly demonstrate skills in, and experience of using, advanced data analysis tools and techniques such as specialist R packages, computational modelling, or structural equation modelling. The ability to write-up and disseminate research findings to a high standard, alongside excellent organisational skills and a dedication to open science principles, are also important. Practical experience of using machine learning methods and / or conducting data analyses with healthcare records are desirable, but not essential.
