German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) - Lecturer and Teaching Assistant Programme (UK and Ireland)

Job description:

  • Act as the DAAD representative in the networking group “Lokales Netzwerk Deutsch” and other lobby groups relating to German language/German as a foreign language
  • Network with all relevant partners in the UK, Ireland and Germany
  • Budget planning and monitoring
  • Report in German and English
  • Manage DAAD contractual agreements with UK and Irish universities
  • Help to prepare and take part in relevant panel meetings
  • Liaise with UK and Irish universities relating to the placement of lecturers for German and teaching assistant posts
  • Evaluate lectureships annually
  • Liaise with UK universities, DAAD lecturers and DAAD headquarters concerning visa and immigration
  • Design and manage training events for lecturers (F2F and online)
  • Assist with and take part in training courses offered by DAAD headquarters
  • Collaborate with the German Embassies in London and Dublin and the German Consulate in Edinburgh for any relevant activities
  • Do marketing and PR for the DAAD lecturer programme and the topic of “German Language in the UK and Ireland”
  • Act as a first point of contact for all DAAD lecturers and teaching assistants in the UK and Ireland
  • Collaborate with the IMLR for the annual DAAD-IMLR German language Competition

Candidate Profile:

  • At least Master’s degree in German or German as a Foreign Language (DaF) and
  • Ideally, two year's relevant work experience in teaching or international educational management
  • Excellent command of English and German (C2 level, mother tongue)
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK, Irish and German HE sector
  • Excellent knowledge of the subject area of German in the UK and Ireland
  • Experience in designing and managing training courses and seminars
  • Willingness to take part in events or go on business trips outside the weekly working hours
  • Experience in leading a team
  • Team player, good organiser, able to work under pressure
  • Outgoing personality
  • Experience in event management (F2F and virtual)
  • Entitled to live and work in UK (British nationality, legal residency, pre-settled or settled status)

The contract is based on UK employment law. Normal working time will be 40 hours a week. The salary will be £ 4,131.00 gross per month. There is a six-month probationary period. The salary will be taxable in Germany unless you are a UK citizen and do not also hold German nationality.
