The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences is recruiting to this position funded by the Quantum Computing Hub (QCI3) supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The QCi3 Hub is part of Phase III of the UK’s Quantum Technologies Programme and is a five-year project with £22.4 million total funding for a consortium of 17 institutions and over 50 research groups. The task of the theory group led by Prof Kyriienko at the University of Sheffield within the consortium is to lead nationally the development of quantum machine learning (QML) algorithms. The research will involve designing innovative QML approaches and collaborating with other groups to run them on existing quantum hardware. In addition, this will include running simulations of quantum circuits, testing performance on noisy simulators, and developing new use-cases. This position assumes being a part of the strong collaborative research network across the UK, and the ability to co-lead the delivery of the quantum machine learning task.

You should have a strong background in theoretical physics, quantum computing, or machine learning and have completed or be in the final stages of a PhD in this or a related discipline.
