Main purpose of the job:

You will be responsible for teaching Academic English provision across the Preparatory courses, International Pathway, Short Course and wider School of Continuing Education offer (applicable to your skills and expertise). You will oversee designated module/ course delivery, developing relevant module/ course learning materials, leading assessment and ensuring appropriate teaching support for home and international students from a variety of backgrounds. You will work collaboratively with contributing teaching teams, the dedicated Curriculum Manager and English Tutor. You will have a proven track record in academic english undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching, and experience of supporting the needs of diverse student groups to achieve strong student experience, exam readiness and outcomes. You will be teaching-led with a student-focused approach to lifelong learning, inclusive education and industry readiness. You may also have a range of knowledge and expertise within english language and/or online delivery for UK higher education.

You will have experience of delivering quality learning, teaching and assessment, module/ course management, and strong student experience/ outcomes in a higher educational or private provider setting. Key responsibilities will include delivering exceptional learning and teaching for academic english modules/ courses, and to ensure high quality student experience, exam readiness and outcomes, alongside assessment management on the relevant programmes. You will also be responsible for learning development, student management and support the wider School team with future portfolio development.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach on relevant Preparatory, International Pathway, Continuing Professional Development and School of Continuing Education courses (upto 60% of contracted hours), undertaking teaching, learning, assessment and feedback responsibilities, ensuring effective module/ course planning and review.
  • Coordinate the monitoring of student progress, attendance, experience and exam readiness/ submissions, in collaboration with the English Tutor, AcademicSuccess Tutors and Curriculum Manager, conducting effective student learning support including regular 1-2-1 student ‘office hours’.
  • Manage relevant curriculum delivery, ensuring high student experience across a diverse home and international student body.
  • Proactively deliver teaching actions to ensure strong student engagement, experience and outcomes (continuation, completion and educational/ career progression) and support the Academic Success Tutors to enable innovative student support relevant to the cohort and level.
  • Undertake designated administrative responsibilities on behalf of the School, allocated annually by the Director of Continuing Education and Head.
  • Ensure quality and timely preparation on learning resources (VLE and/or online/ asynchronous)
  • Fully engage with assessment responsibilities including preparation for relevant Programme and Exam Boards, including attendance (as required).
  • Maintain and enhance high quality teaching models in line with the strategic goals of the School, ensuring currency of pedagogic and subject knowledge in order to deliver contemporary, professional and academic skill development, relevant to a range of disciplines.
  • Support the relevant Curriculum Manager on relevant subject- specific knowledge, expertise and/or industry-specific opportunities as required.
  • Oversee the work of assigned teaching teams, including mentoring and skill development, reporting to the relevant Curriculum Manager on issues arising.
  • Represent the School at relevant recruitment, subject and industry-specific events, networks and organisations.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post as required by the Director of Continuing Education and Head such as programme development, School representative roles, marketing support activities and/or student support coordinator work.
