About the Role
The objective of the lectureship is to provide a development opportunity for those who have exceptional potential in teaching and research in political economy of development. During the two-year appointment, SOAS Associate Lecturers will have the opportunity to develop their teaching experience, as well as their research trajectory. Associate Lecturers are expected to contribute to class teaching on the undergraduate degree programme and other teaching on the undergraduate or postgraduate programme as may be available. While our class teaching needs can arise in all core areas of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, we particularly welcome applicants who can teach in the areas of political economy of development, and development economics
About the Department
The Department of Development Studies is seeking to appoint a fixed-term SOAS Associate Lecturer. The lectureship is not restricted to any particular area of the Development Studies field but experience in teaching political economy of development and development economics modules will be valuable.
You will be expected to teach seminar classes of one or more of these modules. A full list of the modules are shown in the job description.
About you
You should have a PhD in Development Studies, Development Economics or related field, or be close to completing one, by the post start date. Relevant teaching experience including assessing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level would be an advantage. Knowledge of heterodox economics concepts and theories would be an advantage. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills and a capacity to foster an engaging and supportive learning environment for students.
You should also have strong time management skills, with the ability to plan work independently and meet varied deadlines.
