Opportunity Overview
You will be deployed to lead the delivery of the University’s Welcome programme of events supporting our new student’s orientation to life at Salford, and the transition of our returning students to their next level of study. September and January are key entry points for our new students.
Working across all areas of the University, you will shape, support, and deliver an engagement programme that is attractive to our diverse student population. The events, activities and opportunities will be inclusive, recognise cultural diversity, and will meet our students’ social expectations.
You will plan and run your own events so you will need to be a great organiser, and cool and calm under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the University’s student-facing team in delivering a comprehensive and culturally diverse Welcome programme, working with the Students’ Union to support their work. Ensure a coherent package is available and promoted to students. Lead, support, and supervise colleagues, inspiring, directing, and mentoring them to deliver high-quality engagement activities. Build a network of stakeholders and foster collaborative working across teams and partners at the University using an evidence-based approach. Actively seek out ideas and opportunities that support the international student experience and the University’s widening participation agenda at Salford. Work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines, especially before and during Welcome Week.
About the Department
Outside of lectures there are changing social expectations at universities too and in the Directorate of Student Experience and Support we are the team that needs to shape a response to this. We need an inclusive and cohesive approach to our campus experience, support, events, activities and engagement opportunities that meets the needs of our students in physical settings on campus, but also in virtual settings. We need to work in partnership with our Students’ Union and School colleagues to create a vibrant, engaging and culturally diverse student-facing offer that supports our students to make the most of their time at Salford, and achieve their full potential. We want to have the best student services in the sector, and the social engagement and support aspects of our offer is key to that success.
