Contract: Part-time 0.6fte (0.4 Senior Lecturer / 0.2 Outreach Officer), permanent

Location: Vogue College of Fashion - London (30 Bedford Square, WC1B 3EE)

Reports to: BA Course Leader, with oversight relating to Outreach from Director of Undergraduate Programmes

Salary: £50,000 – £57,000 per annum (full-time equivalent)

Role Summary

The Senior Lecturer and Outreach Officer post is a new role which will contribute to the teaching and assessment on the BA (Hons) Fashion Communication & Industry Practice course and oversee the College’s widening participation and outreach program.

The postholder will be a key member of the College team, responsible for supporting the Course Leader on the learning, teaching and development of the postgraduate provision. The ideal candidate will have the expertise, enthusiasm and communication skills to inspire our diverse cohort of students with innovative pedagogy and up-to-date knowledge of industry practices.

The individual will be expected to demonstrate academic flexibility as well as a strong commitment to the learning experience and pastoral care of students, monitoring progress and attendance, and maintaining appropriate records. They will support students developing their skills and expertise throughout their studies from enrolment to graduation.

As the Outreach Officer, the individual will also be responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that inspire our students and support their learning, and to encourage underrepresented groups in the UK, particularly in London, to explore higher education opportunities in fashion and the creative industries.

The post holder will build and maintain partnerships with colleges, schools, and community organisations; providing valuable advice, guidance, and hands-on workshop activities designed to attract and engage young learners and prospective students.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Senior Lecturer

  • Teach / lead specified BA modules delivered at the College as directed by the BA Course Leader and in accordance with the College learning and teaching strategy.
  • Identify and deliver high quality enhanced learning opportunities for students.
  • Support the Course Leader in the review and development of modules to ensure they remain industry relevant and academically rigorous.
  • Stay abreast of developments across the wider remit of fashion communications and in consultation with the Course Leader, ensure that these developments are reflected in the design and delivery of learning materials.
  • Design appropriate ‘learning experiences’ and ensure appropriate teaching materials are available to students in a timely manner.
  • Provide effective formative and summative feedback to students, ensuring clear and timely delivery with reference to set assessment criteria.
  • Adhere to College policies and share best practice in relation to assessment and feedback.
  • Monitor attendance and engagement, and support students in their learning, development and progress.
  • Ensure QA procedures are adhered to and that relevant module reports are completed.
  • Support preparation for Exam Boards and materials for External Examiners as required.
  • Reflect on own academic practice and identify opportunities for enhancement that will contribute to an exceptional student experience.
  • Supervise relevant external visits, student projects and College based activities.
  • Work with the Course Leader to provide a high standard of pastoral care for undergraduate students, as well as coordinating support for those with additional learning needs.

Outreach Officer

  • Design, plan and deliver outreach activities to encourage and support the progression of learners from underrepresented groups as identified in the Vogue College of Fashion Access and Participation Plan.
  • Liaise with academics and marketing department to develop promotional materials for outreach and widening participation events and attend relevant recruitment events.
  • Promote HE in Fashion Communication and support external learners, and targeted applicants in applying to the College.
  • Identify and establish strong connections with suitable schools, colleges, communities and organisations to facilitate outreach efforts.
  • Promote a programme of College ambassadors, enrolling, training and supporting VCF students to take on this role for recruitment and outreach events.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach initiatives and adjust as relevant to improve results and achieve set targets, working within the agreed budget.
  • Ensure that all documentation is maintained accurately in accordance with OfS reporting requirements for the Access and Participation plan.

General & Administration

  • Undertake relevant reporting, writing reflective and statistical reports for internal and external review
  • Build and maintains positive relationships with young learners and College students
  • Maintain a strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding issues in relation to outreach events.

Person Specification - Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Degree level qualification in a related field
  • PGCert Education or equivalent
  • Experience of working in the fashion and or media industries
  • Extensive relevant teaching and professional experience
  • An ability to work within a small committed academic and administrative team
  • Knowledge of effective approaches to widening participation in fashion, art, design and communication subjects in FE and HE
  • Innovative approaches in learning and teaching practice that supports a student centred and inclusive approach
  • Strong communicator, visually, verbally and in writing, adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way
  • Expert in one or more of the following subject areas:
    • Fashion image and content creation
    • Fashion media
    • Fashion marketing and branding
    • Fashion business and entrepreneurship
    • Fashion PR and social media
    • Fashion styling

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working in widening participation, outreach and recruitment
  • Awareness of school curricula, relevant learning outcomes at school and FE levels
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
