The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia is one of the largest scientific research centres in sub-Saharan Africa, with an international reputation for ground-breaking research into some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics. We aim to improve people's health in developing countries by striving for excellence in research, healthcare, and training. Our research program spans basic scientific research, clinical studies, epidemiological studies, intervention trials, and translational research. The field and laboratory-based work draws on excellent research and clinical facilities and attracts international funding.
A postdoctoral research fellow position is available to join an interdisciplinary team evaluating the health and well-being benefits of clean energy access in The Gambia, West Africa. The post-holder will work in close collaboration with partners in The Gambia, Ghana, Nepal, Brazil, and the UK.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant field and experience conducting novel environmental change and health research from conception to output stages, including relevant expertise in intervention studies, environmental epidemiology, biostatistics, or another related discipline. The successful applicant would have a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively. Some experience in communication and dissemination of policy-relevant results is desirable.
The post is full-time and fixed-term for 30 months. The post is available immediately.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6, in the range of £45,097 - £51,156 per annum (including London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. In addition to this, there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in The Gambia at LSHTM.
