Stipendiary Lecturership in Computer Science (six weighted hours, four year fixed-term contract)

University of Oxford - Christ Church

Location: Oxford
Salary: £16,569 to £18,308 (current rates) per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 20th June 2025
Closes: 21st July 2025

Christ Church invites applications for a four-year fixed-term Stipendiary Lecturership in Computer Science. This is a temporary, fixed-term position to fulfil the current teaching need arising from Professor Gal's teaching buyout from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2029. Therefore, the appointment carries with it no expectation of permanent employment at Christ Church.

The Lecturer will be expected to deliver five weighted hours of teaching per week, averaged over the three eight-week terms of each academic year. There is an additional one weighted hour for organisation and support.

The successful candidate will be able to teach Linear Algebra, Digital Systems, Concurrent Programming, and Probability (both Prelims and A8). The exact courses tutored may vary but would likely consist of these.

The salary will be in the range of £16,569 - £18,308 (current rates) per annum, according to qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate, or at least a substantial part of one complete, in Computer Science or a closely related field. Evidence of the skills for successful tutorial teaching, including the ability to explain problems and ideas lucidly, listen to students’ questions and views sympathetically, and enthuse and inspire them is essential.

Further Particulars, including instructions on how to apply, may be downloaded from our website via the above ‘Apply’ button. The deadline for applications is 12:00 noon on 21 July 2025.

It is our policy and practice that entry into employment and progression within employment will be determined only by criteria which are related to the duties of a particular post and the relevant salary scale. No applicant or member of staff will be treated less favourably than another because of their age, disability, ethnicity, marital or civil partnership status, parental status, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
