The University of Westminster has been providing professional mental health and counselling support to students for over 50 years. We are now seeking an experienced Counselling and Mental Health Service Manager to lead our multidisciplinary team into its next phase of growth and innovation.
In this senior leadership role, the postholder will provide strategic and operational direction for the University’s Counselling and Mental Health Service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, inclusive, and responsive psychological support. As clinical lead, the post holder will oversee a team of counsellors and mental health professionals delivering individual and group interventions, crisis management, and consultation services across our diverse student population.
The postholder will play a key role in shaping university-wide approaches to mental health, embedding a whole-institution strategy aligned with the principles of the University Mental Health Charter. This includes working in close partnership with academic departments, professional services, and external health and care providers to support a compassionate and connected student experience. Ability to evaluate service impact, innovate in service design, and lead through complexity will be critical in meeting the evolving needs of our student body. The Postholder will also act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead and a key contributor to university committees and sector networks.
We are looking for a qualified and accredited mental health professional (e.g. Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Psychologist) with substantial leadership experience in a complex organisation, ideally within higher education. The successful candidate will be confident in clinical risk management, inclusive practice, data-informed service improvement, and collaborative working.
