UCL Translational Research Office (TRO) is an integral part of I&E and UCL’s biomedical research powerhouse. As an expert team of applied scientists and business developers, we support our researchers in realising their translational ambition by offering strategic advice, funding support, and bridging the gap with industry to help establish collaborations that drive the pipeline of therapeutic, device and diagnostic innovations.
The TRO Business & Innovation Group is leading in the implementation of a comprehensive approach intended to produce a step change in UCL’s ability to develop new approaches to diagnosis and treatment of disease. To achieve this, the group works with the health community across UCL and externally.
The Business & Innovation Group (BIG) have an important role at the interface between academia and industry, liaising with multiple senior partner representatives both internally and externally with the aim of moving industry relationships beyond transactional fee for service models to true partnering.

About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with excellent interpersonal skills to manage a diverse set of relationships. Working with senior personnel from academia, the Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs) and commercial partners, the individual will bring innovative approaches to identifying and defining high-value opportunities.
The main purpose of the Senior Business & Innovation Manager role is to develop and deliver UCL LMS’s strategic thinking and tailored approaches for industrial engagement that enhance and raise the profile of biomedical translational science at UCL, its Academic Health Science Centres (AHSC) and three BRC partners, such that they are recognised as the world’s best at translation.
The post holder works to benefit the faculty’s strategic objectives and strengths, including the execution of the industry engagement strategy across the Therapeutic Innovation Networks (TINs), which bring together researchers and industry experts involved across key therapeutic modalities.
The post holder will engage with industry for the purposes of knowledge transfer and collaborative research opportunities relevant to the commercial and/or strategic development of such organisations.
In addition to driving the research agendas, the engagement will yield appropriate returns to the individual departments in terms of increased revenue and contributions in kind, including equipment and secondment of staff.
