Are you passionate about legal education, civic engagement, and shaping the next generation of legal professionals? The University of Chester’s School of Law and Social Justice invites applications for the role of Director of Practice-Led Learning within the Chester Law School—a position at the heart of our mission to deliver transformative legal education rooted in real-world impact.

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled professional to join our team in a 0.9 FTE capacity. This role offers a structured and sustainable workload—typically equivalent to 4.5 days per week.

Our School of Law and Social Justice is a hub for research and scholarship in areas such as  Social Responsibility, Social and Criminal Justice, Equality and Diversity, International Law, and Family and Medical Law.

About Us

Established in 2005, Chester Law School is a vibrant and forward-thinking academic community with a strong commitment to public engagement and the development of civic duty. With around 400 students annually, we offer a successful portfolio of undergraduate LLB (Hons) and postgraduate LLM courses and are actively evolving our curriculum to meet the changing landscape of legal qualification.

Our nationally acclaimed Pro Bono initiatives, including the Chester Community Law Project and the University of Chester Legal Advice Clinic, provide students with hands-on experience addressing real legal issues—from housing and benefits to family, education and immigration law. These initiatives are central to our ethos of civic value and social justice.

The Role

As Director of Practice-Led Learning, you will:

  • Lead the strategic development and operational management of our Legal Advice Clinic
  • Champion innovative, practice-led learning across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • Develop, lead and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate modules which encompass
    • Business Law and Practice pathways, covering areas such as company, employment and clinical legal education
    • Experiential and project-based modules
  • Spearhead impactful legal education research and secure external funding
  • Build partnerships with legal professionals and promote our public-facing legal services
  • Supervise postgraduate research and contribute to curriculum design

What We’re Looking For

We seek a legal academic with:

  • A current practising certificate as a Solicitor
  • Significant experience in legal practice and legal education
  • A strong track record in teaching and curriculum development, particularly in Business Law and Legal Practice pathways
  • Leadership experience in managing legal services or clinics
  • A passion for public engagement, student development, and research in legal education
  • A doctorate and experience in securing research funding are desirable
