The role

The Institute for Communication Systems Research (ICS) home of the 5G/6G Innovation Centre (5G/6GIC) is looking to recruit a Lead Network Architect.

This fantastic opportunity will be responsible for the architecture and development of the 5G network functions within 5G/6GIC. 

The post holder will be an integral part of the 5G/6GIC testbed team. They will be required to design, develop and test software from specifications, as well as deliver innovative research and/or features of the 5G/6GIC testbed, expanding the impact of the centre within the research community. The post holder will also be expected to offer technical support and guidance to PhD researchers working in ICS.

ICS is the largest academic research institute in Europe specialising in all aspects of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). It is home to over 200 researchers with expertise in all communication and broadcasting systems and has developed the best in class large scale testbeds for research and innovation and enjoys the state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities.

Established in 2012, 5GIC is the world’s first dedicated centre in researching end-to-end aspects of 5G and works closely with national and international leading academic institutes and key industrial partners. In November 2020, 6GIC was officially launched with parallel research undertaken in both 5G+ and 6G for 2030+.

About you

The post holder must have a relevant degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Science. They must have experience and knowledge in the following:

  • Linux IP Networking (IPv4/IPv6), TCP/UDP, HTTP/S 2.0, Socket Programming.
  • Operating Systems concepts (e.g. Linux) and Multithreaded Programming.
  • Excellent coding skills (Object Oriented and non) in Linux platform (C/C++, Go, Python).
  • Experience in delivery of high-quality software in a planned timeline.
