The Assistant Management Accountant (Research) is a key role providing operational professional advice and support in respect of the delivery of a wide range of research grants and contracts across multiple funding bodies. The Assistant Management Accountant will be expected to liaise with numerous internal and external collaborators to meet reporting and forecasting deadlines.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will play a key role within the SBU(s) to support and research specific financial issues from award to final submission.
The Assistant Management Accountant (Research) role is a devolved role reporting to the Research Finance Manager and will be an integral member of the Research Finance team supporting the Research Management Accountants (RMA) and Strategic Business Unit (SBU) staff whilst operating as part of the University’s Professional team within the Finance department. They are expected to work independently demonstrating a strong customer centric ethos, building good working relationships with stakeholders through close communication, information sharing and collaborative working.
Additionally, you will also support financial Monitoring and Control of research awards including interrogation of the financial system. This includes ensuring income and expenditure up to date, accurate and compliant timesheets processed on a regular basis, ensuring research project set up compliant with guidelines and assisting in arranging external audits of awards.
Skill and experience required
You will be expected to have experience of working within a financial environment and the use of accounting packages within large/complex organisations. The role will require you to have experience of when to make decisions and when to refer to them to the Research Finance Manager. You will show a proven ability to communicate successfully with staff at all levels showing excellent inter-personal skills, both written and oral.
You will be expected to have excellent IT (including advanced Excel) skills with a proven record of proven time management and organisation skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities successfully ensuring reporting deadlines are met, whilst also responding to in a timely manner to ad-hoc queries.
Qualifications required
You must be at least a part-qualified member of a professional accounting qualification (CCAB) or able to demonstrate significant experience in a similar role and hold a minimum of a degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification) for this position or have equivalent relevant experience.
