The Role

We are seeking an outstanding academic to join our staff as a Professor of Food Science and/or Human Nutrition. We seek an exceptional academic leader with a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service to lead the discipline of Human Nutrition and Food Science within the Department of Sport Science and Nutrition. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in developing and leading innovative teaching and research programs that advance knowledge in food science, human nutrition, and their intersections with health and technology. They will also have a demonstrable capacity to link with relevant industry. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of the discipline, mentor the next generation of scientists, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration across the university and beyond.
Professor A (2025) Salary Scale: €142,868 - €180,621 p.a. (6 points)
Professor B (2025) Salary Scale: €103,474 - €138,309 p.a. (6 points)
The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. They will be expected to make a strong leadership contribution to the teaching programme of the Department and undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and PhD students. Professors will be expected to provide significant intellectual leadership, through a demonstrated commitment to both education and research, and also to contribute to the effective leadership and management of the department, the faculty and the university.
The appointee will be expected to build on a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes, where appropriate and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.
