Who we are/Ko wai mātou

Te Kura Kairūri, the University of Otago School of Surveying, is recognised nationally and internationally for the quality of our graduates and the impact of our research. We offer a comprehensive undergraduate programme leading to the Bachelor of Surveying, BSc in Surveying Measurement, Land Planning and Development, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). We mentor students who conduct excellent Honours, MSc, and PhD research. We are committed to our role as a Treaty partner, and to shaping and growing that commitment for future generations.

The position/Te Mahi

We seek one full-time, permanent academic colleague with expertise in at least two of the following:

  1. Geodesy
  2. Surveying Mathematics
  3. Surveying Measurement (Applied Geodesy)
  4. other Surveying subtopics (including Engineering, Cadastral or Reality Capture).

The appointment will be made at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level dependent on academic achievement, skills and experience.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Teaching: Responsibilities include core papers from the areas above and allied topics aligned with appointees' expertise and interest, as well as field camps. Representation of Māori worldviews, values and aspirations is an important aspect of teaching in the School
  • Research: Developing a vibrant research programme that inspires students and others, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, attracts competitive funding, produces high-quality peer-reviewed publications and supervises research students, aligns with Māori community aspirations, and is relevant both nationally and internationally
  • Contributing to the effective operation of the School and our commitments via the University’s Māori, Pacific, Equity and Diversity and Sustainability strategic frameworks and professional networks

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold or be near completion of a PhD in an appropriate discipline
  • Have an active research and engagement portfolio, demonstrated by publications and other outputs
  • Be an enthusiastic and effective teacher and mentor in Surveying disciplines
  • Be collaborative, collegial and inclusive in teaching, research/practice and service.

This is a permanent, full-time (1 FTE) position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

The salary scales are as follows:

  • Lecturer: $97,377 to $114,943
  • Senior Lecturer: $120,494 to $137,444
