The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide, working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
The role involves leading research on the impact of community-led nutrition interventions during the war in Sudan. Responsibilities include developing surveys to assess reliance on community kitchens, analysing pre- and post-war data on food, disease, and coping strategies, and creating projections of acute malnutrition. The role also requires stakeholder engagement, data sharing, and producing scientific publications, visual outputs, and policy briefs.
A public health researcher is sought with expertise in quantitative surveys, mathematical modeling in nutrition (especially in Sudan), and crisis clinical nutrition program management. The ideal candidate should also have experience in qualitative research, mutual aid in crises, and a strong publication record. A relevant postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree and the ability to work independently are also essential. Further particulars can be found in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE (although part-time hours 0.5 - 1.0 FTE will be considered) and fixed-term until 29 September 2025, with potential for extension subject to funding. The post is funded by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) of the United States and is available from 14 July 2025.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,097 - £51,156 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
