Applications are invited for the role of Research Associate/Fellow in the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham. You will be based in the Biodiscovery Institute (www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/research-areas/biodiscovery-institute/biodiscovery-institute.aspx), with access to a range of state-of-the-art facilities.
About the role
The project, funded by the UKRI Medical Research Council, will study the drivers of relapse in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) with the goal of improving treatment options in this poor outcome cancer. You will perform and analyse next-generation sequencing experiments and test candidate therapeutics on leukaemic stem cells isolated from primary patient samples. You will be responsible for carrying out laboratory research, data analysis and presentation of results.
About the team
You will join the lab of Dr Sophie Kellaway as part of the Blood Cancer and Stem Cell group (https://bcasc.co.uk/). You will work closely with a research technician. You will have the opportunity to work with external collaborators at the project partners: clinical (University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust, Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust), academic (Heidenreich lab, Princess Maxima Center, Utrecht) and industrial (Rarity Bioscience, Uppsala).
About you
A PhD or the equivalent in professional qualifications, and experience in mammalian cell biology and gene regulation is essential. Consideration will be given to candidates who are PhD students nearing the submission of their thesis. It is desirable for the successful candidate to have experience in the following areas: molecular biology including next-generation sequencing, bioinformatic analysis (R and/or python), mammalian cell culture. The post holder will be comfortable working both independently and in a collaborative environment.
