The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia is one of the largest scientific research centres in sub-Saharan Africa, with an international reputation for ground-breaking research into some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics. We aim to improve people's health in developing countries by striving for excellence in research, healthcare, and training. Our research program spans basic scientific research, clinical studies, epidemiological studies, intervention trials, and translational research. The field and laboratory-based work draws on excellent research and clinical facilities and attracts international funding.
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology to help develop, coordinate, and conduct robust analysis of high-throughput host protein data under supervision using advanced analytical and bioinformatics approaches related to the objectives of the CORRAL Study. This study aims to validate and refine a novel host protein biosignature of tuberculosis (TB) in children.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant field and experience in computer-based analyses and presentation of experimental data. The successful applicant would have a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively. Some experience in communication and dissemination of policy-relevant results is desirable.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2027 with a possibility to extend upon further funding. The post is funded by UKRI and is available immediately.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6, in the range of £45,097 - £47,205 per annum (including London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. In addition to this, there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in The Gambia at LSHTM.
