The University of Cambridge is seeking an enthusiastic research assistant to join Dr Dami Collier's group and Dr Nerea Irigoyen's group in the Department of Pathology, working on cutting-edge science in Neuroscience and Virology. Work in the Collier lab focuses on understanding HIV-1 replication in the brain as a cause of brain injury, treatment escape and barrier to achieving HIV cure. The Irigoyen lab aims to understand how the Zika virus lineages induce neuropathogenesis and neurotropism to answer which cellular pathways drive virus-induced pathogenesis, how host responses differ between different lineages and how these differences are linked to viral genetics.

Candidates will be expected to hold a degree in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline. We were looking for a candidate highly skilled in virology, stem cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry. Prior experience working with confocal imaging, flow cytometry and CL3 containment lab is highly advantageous.

The successful applicant will become an integral and valued member of a multi-disciplinary group. Successful candidates will be expected to design and carry out research both independently and as part of a team, preparing research results for presentation/publication, delivering occasional seminars and maintaining accurate records of experiments and reagents.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance, from 1st October 2025.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
