About us

The London Centre for Nanotechnology is a UK-based multidisciplinary enterprise operating at the forefront of science and technology. Our purpose is to solve global problems in information processing, healthcare, energy and the environment through the application of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Founded in 2003, the LCN began as a joint venture between University College London and Imperial College London, based at the Bloomsbury and South Kensington sites; from 2018 King's College London joined the collaboration from its base on The Strand.

About the role

We wish to recruit a full time Research Fellow position for three years funded by The Crick Institute. The project focuses on developmental growth and patterning and its evolution.

The successful candidate will develop theoretical and/or computational frameworks to study the interplay between biochemical patterning, growth, and morphogenesis during development and evolution. The project will include collaborations with experimental colleagues, and the theoretical tools and analysis developed will be rooted in and motivated by experimental observations.

Research will be carried out in Dr Zena Hadjivasiliou’s group that is affiliated with The London Centre for Nanotechnology, the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCL and The Crick Institute. The project will involve interactions with experimental groups at The Crick, UCL and EMBL Heidelberg.

The precise details of the project aims and direction are flexible and will be drawn by the successful applicant together with the PI (Dr Hadjivasiliou).

About you

Applicants should have (or be about to submit) a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline in the Physical Sciences. No prior knowledge of biology is required but willingness to work at the interface of physics/maths and biology is essential. Coding competency (in C, Python, Matlab or similar language) is essential. Applicants should demonstrate a publication record appropriate to their level of experience. The successful candidate will be self-driven, independent and able to work as a member of a team.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent on award and confirmation of a PhD (or equivalent). If this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B, points 26 (salary £38,607-£41,255 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. For appointments at Grade 8, demonstrated supervision of research students and significant (more than 3 years) of postdoctoral experience is essential.
