Are you a GDC registered dentist based in West-Yorkshire primary care who has a research interest and are keen to gain further research experience and knowledge? Do you want to work with a group of inter-disciplinary academics and develop your clinical research skills?
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic dentist who will be work on building research capacity in primary care dentistry and growth of DENTPRIME NORTHERN (Dental Primary Care Oral Health Research Network) – our regional primary care research network. You will be supported by the NIHR Research Delivery Networks Oral & Dental Speciality leads in the locality Professors Sue Pavitt and Peter Day. You will also link to a person in South Yorkshire in Prof Zoe Marshman’s doing a similar role for knowledge exchange and sharing best practice approaches.
As the primary role permits, you will also have some opportunity to be engaged in RAISED [Research Activity in Schools Evaluating Dental & oral health] in Yorkshire (RiY) research delivery across secondary schools. RiY is a complex intervention to improve oral health knowledge, skills, and behaviour in vulnerable communities. You will support participating Schools and primary care-based Foundation Dentists. This will also create opportunity to explore training practices joining DENTPRIME Northern.
You should be currently working in Primary Care Dentistry in West Yorkshire, have experience of research and/ or project management and in working with non-NHS communities. Evidence of successful work with young people is highly desirable. You should be highly organised, motivated, competent in working to tight deadlines and able to communicate effectively to a range of audiences in both oral and written mediums.
The RiY research will be undertaken in ~6 Secondary Schools and is restricted by the schools’ availability to accommodate the research team within their timetables. As part of this, and to maximise data collection, we would expect the successful candidate to ideally take annual leave during school holidays. The RiY trial requires >250 pupils to have a dental examination between September 2025 and March 2026.
The role is fixed term until 31st March 2026 to complete specific time limited work.
We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
