The Faculty of Philosophy wishes to appoint a temporary Assistant Professor in Philosophy for 12 months from 1 September 2025, or as soon as possible after this date. This is a fixed-term post, and is to provide cover during the absence of another staff member.
This post requires teaching expertise at a level that is at the forefront of academic practice. Ability to teach central topics at undergraduate and Masters level in early modern philosophy and ethics is essential. The ability to teach in other areas would be an advantage.
The person appointed will be required to give up to 40 lectures during the academic year, to supervise MPhil students, and to examine at both undergraduate and postgraduate level; and contribute to the administrative functions of the Faculty.
The successful candidate will hold a philosophy PhD or about to be awarded their PhD by the beginning of the appointment. Candidates will have an outstanding record of excellence in research, publication and teaching in Philosophy, relative to their stage of career.
The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to participate in College teaching for additional remuneration.
