Pembroke College wishes to appoint a part-time College Lecturer in Music for two years, from 1 September 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

We welcome applicants with expertise in the Techniques of Music and in Composition. We have a lively Music community in Pembroke and you will work alongside a number of early career academics and researchers in the college in a wide range of subjects.

We usually admit three students each year to study Music. All of our teaching is in small groups (one or two students). We expect you mainly to teach:

  • Stylistic Composition: Techniques of Composition (Year 1, Compulsory course) and where required in Years 2 and 3
  • Optional Composition courses for students in Years 1-3

There will also be opportunities for you to teach other optional courses within your area of expertise.

You will be required to provide teaching for an average of three hours’ contact time per week during the eight weeks of Oxford’s three terms. You will be expected to set and mark weekly work, set and mark college exams and participate in undergraduate admissions. You will also take on some administrative and pastoral responsibilities, including organising teaching and helping students to adjust to the course in their first term at Oxford. We expect applicants for this post to be research active and to provide research-led teaching and to be an active member of Oxford’s musical research community.

The salary will be in the range of £8,285 - £9,154 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. You will have a tutor’s allowance of £640.25, use of a room for teaching, and you will also be able to take some lunches and dinners free of charge in College throughout the year. All salary figures are 2024-25 rates and are subject to annual uplift.
