Partnership Manager for Skills and Training Hub: The University seeks a person to develop collaborations and relationships between Universities and Industry across the UK in support of a Doctoral Training Programme. Position will be for 4 years in the first instance.
FTE: 1 (35 hours/week)
Contract Type: Fixed Term (Currently until 30/09/2028)
This fixed-term post is for a Partnerships Officer to lead and coordinate partnerships within the Skills and Training Hub in Energy Transfer Technology.
The S&T Hub in ETT is a consortium, managed by Liverpool (Lead), Strathclyde, Cranfield and Southampton Universities and Imperial College. The hub is funded by the EPSRC and supports 50-60 PhD student projects across 5 cohorts developing cross disciplinary science and engineering relevant to energy transfer technology in defence and other fields. It has been established as an initiative of HMG and industry to address a serious lack of suitably qualified and experienced people (SQuEP) identified in this strategically vital area. Students will be placed across multiple Universities and with multiple industrial partners. Each studentship is aligned with an external partner that provides funding and technical direction to the PhD. Each cohort will start in October, with the fifth and final cohort starting in October 2027. Each student will undertake a PhD lasting no more than 4 years. The last students will therefore complete prior to September 2031.
As part of and in addition to the primary goal of training the next generation of leaders in the field, the hub seeks to develop a network of supporting partnerships across industry and academia.
The hub is seeking to appoint an individual to ensure the smooth running of the partnerships between the Universities and Industry and the development of a healthy network to ensure UK capability in the future. The partnership manager will work closely with the directors, hub staff and partners to enhance existing relationships and develop new collaborations across the field, particularly with industry and governmental organisations.
The S&T Hub Partnership Manager will manage the development of studentship project plans with the academic and industrial supervisors, the financial contributions by industry to S&T Hub projects, maintain the interactions with each external partner that invests in the S&T Hub PhD programme to ensure projects run smoothly and future funding is secured, and act as academic point of contact (POC) between the partner and the Hub on any commercial-related matters. The Partnerships Manager will ensure that partners are supported throughout their investment and are aware of key activities (i.e., recruitment, contracts, placements, reports, meetings, events, etc) and set-out the expectations of the individual roles related to the research project.
The position will be hosted within the Physics Department at the University of Strathclyde, reporting locally to the hub director at Strathclyde. The University is recognised as being people-oriented, and you will receive generous employer contributions to your pension; and be eligible to subscribe to a variety of schemes associated with being an employee of the University including: a world-class Sport Centre; family friendly policies; and various additional incentives including a Cycle Scheme. The University also has on-site childcare and parking for which you can apply.
Please be aware that many roles, for example those working with industry partners may be subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that enhanced checks may be required, and factors including your nationality, any previous nationalities you have held, and your place of birth may limit the roles you can perform for the organisation.
Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Professor Kevin Ronald (k.ronald@strath.ac.uk).
Formal interviews for this post will be held in August 2025.
