WaterBear, a College of Falmouth University, is redefining contemporary music education with a flexible, innovative, and artist-led approach. Now, we're looking for a dynamic and student-focused Head of Year (Undergraduate) to join our team.

The Role

As Head of Year, you'll play a key leadership and mentoring role in guiding students through their studies. You'll blend academic coordination, pastoral support, and creative development to help students grow as artists, professionals, and people.

This is a vital opportunity to help shape a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking educational environment rooted in creativity, collaboration, and career-readiness.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for students in your year group, offering academic and creative guidance.
  • Support student wellbeing, engagement, and academic progress in close collaboration with Student Services.
  • Coordinate curriculum delivery with Heads of Department, ensuring high-quality and up-to-date VLE content.
  • Foster student integration across modules and a cohesive learning experience.
  • Course and exam coordination and administration
  • Promote industry awareness, portfolio development, and live performance opportunities.
  • Contribute to events, showcases, open days, and the wider WaterBear community.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Degree in music, music production, performance, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting or teaching students in a contemporary music setting.
  • Knowledge of the UK music industry and how it intersects with higher education.
  • Strong mentoring and communication skills, especially in one-to-one and group settings.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in education and music.
  • Organised, self-motivated, and attentive to detail.

Desirable

  • Professional experience as a musician, producer, or industry professional.
  • A relevant teaching qualification
  • Involvement in showcases, studio work, or live events.
  • HEA Fellowship (or willingness to pursue).
  • Experience supporting neurodiverse or wellbeing-challenged students.
