This unique role offers the opportunity to enhance and extend an existing simulation platform for railway track bed modelling using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology.

As a KTP Associate, you will lead the development of a next-generation 3D simulation solution that accurately replicates the electromagnetic behaviour of GPR systems in complex rail environments. This will include realistic modelling of track bed materials, 3D antenna design, and validation against real-world data. You’ll be based at Zetica, working closely with both academic and industrial teams to turn research into impactful commercial innovation.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a collaborative R&D project applying advanced numerical modelling to real-world rail challenges.
  • Develop and implement 3D simulation tools using Python to model GPR responses in rail track bed environments.
  •  Integrate realistic subsurface materials and antenna models into the simulation platform.
  • Validate simulation outputs against field data and feed into product development.
  • Translate academic expertise into practical tools for Zetica Ltd’s operations.
  • Report progress and present findings to stakeholders across academia and industry.

  • Strong background in numerical modelling, electromagnetics, and wave propagation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience in scientific research or applied development projects.

Desirable

  •  Experience with software development tools and workflows.
  •  Familiarity with GPR or geophysical applications.

You’ll thrive in this role if you are

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of leading project components independently.
  • A strong communicator, confident in presenting technical work to diverse audiences.
  • Able to bridge the gap between academia and industry with a practical mindset.
  • Eager to contribute to impactful, cross-disciplinary innovation.

Why apply?

  • Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge geophysical technologies.
  • Deliver tangible commercial value through applied research.
  • Be part of a prestigious KTP scheme that offers fast-track career development.
