Lecturer in Environmental Design

THE ROLE

The post of Lecturer in Environmental Design will be located within the Wales Institute of Science and Art (WISA) but will be focused on delivery at our partner institution in Lanzhou, China. The post holder will have to spend a significant proportion of their work time in China where all teaching will be delivered in English. These will be in 12-week blocks (covering a full semester) and upon expiration of this period, the postholder will be required to return to the UK under the terms of the contract to undertake academic activities at one of our UK based campuses, primarily Swansea (this can be a blend of Online and face to face). Support will be given to ensure our Chinese students benefit from the latest UK educational materials and methods, together with training on the pedagogical perspectives of the Chinese learner.  

The post holder will be under the line management of the Deputy Dean Lanzhou Wales College for the duration of the contract but will work closely with Faculty staff in Lanzhou whilst on the 12 week teaching block there. 

As with all teaching posts at the university, the post holder will be required to produce a range of teaching and assessment materials, covering a range of module within the subject area of Environmental Design. The post holder will deliver teaching in a variety of different learning environments and use a variety of teaching styles and approaches, including all levels of undergraduate study and, where appropriate, postgraduate study. The post holder will offer both academic and pastoral feedback and support to students to the highest professional standards and with due regard to the ongoing enhancement of the student experience. The post holder will undertake scholarship, research, training or project work, either individually or within a team, to ensure ongoing professional development and to enhance the profile of the Academic Discipline, Institute and Universities both Chinese and British. The post holder will make a positive contribution to the day-to-day activities of the Academic Discipline that may cover areas such as dissertation supervision, student recruitment, marketing activities, research seminars and workshops, staff training and professional development.

This role will:

• Offer teaching and student support at undergraduate and postgraduate level of study, either individually or as a member of a teaching team
• Offer teaching in a variety of learning settings, from seminar and small group tutorials to large class teaching, lectures, and workshops. using appropriate and engaging teaching styles, within an established programme of study
• Design and develop teaching materials, assessment methods and grading criteria, for individual modules within a specific subject area, with a clear awareness and understanding of UK quality assurance requirements
• Supervise the work of students in a timely, professional and supportive manner, providing necessary advice on study skills, research methods, assessment and dissertation work

The primary location will be Swansea Campus & China.
